Check court case status with your CNR number

A free helper to check the status of a case in district courts, High Courts and the Supreme Court of India on the official eCourts websites. Check your 16-character CNR number here, copy it with one tap, and open the official page. Below is a Hindi–English glossary of words you will see on the status page.

4 letters + 12 digits, e.g. MHAU010012342019. Spaces and hyphens are removed automatically.

🔒 We can't fetch the status for you — the official site uses a captcha, and your case details stay between you and the court website.

What is a CNR number?

CNR (Case Number Record) is a unique 16-character number given to every case filed in district and subordinate courts that are on the eCourts system. It never changes, even if the case is transferred.

Format: 4 letters followed by 12 digits — for example MHAU010012342019. The first 2 letters are the state code, the next 2 are the district code, then 2 digits for the court establishment, 6 digits for the case number and 4 digits for the year of filing.

Where to find it: usually printed on the first page of orders, summons, notices and the case filing receipt. The court's filing counter or the advocate handling the case can also tell you.

How to check status on eCourts

  1. Enter and check your CNR above, then tap “Copy CNR & open official eCourts”.
  2. On the official page, choose the CNR Number search (it is usually the first box).
  3. Paste the CNR, type the captcha exactly as shown, and tap Search.
  4. Read the next hearing date, stage of case and orders. Use the glossary below if a word is unclear.

Don't have the CNR?

On the same eCourts site you can also search by party name, case number, FIR number or advocate name after selecting the state, district and court complex. The official free “eCourts Services” mobile app offers the same searches.
