FAQs
- What is Rukao Adhikar?
- A free bilingual tool for when traffic police stop you in India. Pick one of 10 situations (helmet/seatbelt, signal/speed/wrong side, documents, breathalyzer, towing/seizure, e-challan on phone, bribe pressure, woman passenger at night, out-of-state vehicle, search request) to see the calm first 3 steps, what you usually must show vs what is optional, what not to do, how to pay or challenge on official portals, helplines and a WhatsApp Status card. Educational facilitation only — not legal advice.
- Is a DigiLocker or mParivahan copy of my licence and RC valid?
- Generally yes. The Central Motor Vehicles Rules (rule 139, as amended) allow documents to be produced in physical or electronic form, and copies in DigiLocker / mParivahan are widely accepted. Practice can differ by State, so keep the apps updated and verify with your State traffic police.
- Do I have to pay the fine on the spot?
- Not usually. Ask for an official e-challan or receipt with the section and amount, then pay on echallan.parivahan.gov.in, your State portal or the court. Never pay cash without an official receipt. Serious offences such as drunk driving (MV Act s.185) generally go to court and are not settled on the spot.
- How do I contest a wrong e-challan?
- Open the challan yourself on echallan.parivahan.gov.in or your State portal (never via an SMS link), check the photo, time and place, and raise a grievance with proof. Challans sent to virtual courts can be handled on vcourts.gov.in, and many States settle pending challans in Lok Adalats. Rules and timelines change — verify on the official site.
- What if a traffic officer asks for a bribe?
- Politely ask for an official e-challan and offer to pay online. Note the name plate, badge, place and time and complain in writing to the senior traffic officer, the State anti-corruption bureau / vigilance (1064 in many States) or the State grievance portal / CPGRAMS. Giving a bribe is also an offence under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
- Does Adhiwakta pay, cancel or fight challans?
- No. Adhiwakta is a citizen legal-help facilitation platform, not a law firm. It does not pay, cancel or contest challans, appear before any authority or court, or guarantee any outcome. Nothing you pick here is uploaded by this tool.
