FAQs

What is Mahila Suraksha?
A bilingual safety and rights tool for women in India. Pick one of 7 situations (violence at home, dowry demand, thrown out of the marital home / stridhan kept, no maintenance, sexual harassment at work, photos misused or blackmail online, stalking) to see the first 3 steps, rights in short, proof to keep, what not to do, where to go and a ready complaint / letter, plus a safety plan checklist and a Quick Exit button. Educational facilitation only — not legal advice.
Can my husband or in-laws throw me out of the house?
Under s.17 of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, a woman in a domestic relationship has the right to reside in the shared household whether or not she owns it, and cannot be evicted except by procedure established by law. The Magistrate can pass residence orders (s.19), including stopping dispossession or ordering alternate accommodation or rent. Facts matter — ask the Protection Officer or legal aid (15100).
How do I get a morphed or private photo removed?
Save screenshots with the link, then report it on the platform and write to its Grievance Officer. Under Rule 3(2)(b) of the IT Rules, 2021, platforms must remove content exposing private areas, sexual acts or morphed impersonation within 24 hours of a complaint by the person. Also report on 1930 / cybercrime.gov.in. Don't pay a blackmailer.
Is it safe to use this page? Does it save anything?
Nothing you type or tick is uploaded or saved, and your choice is not written into the address bar. The Quick Exit button (or pressing Esc twice) replaces this page with a weather search at once. If someone checks your phone, also clear browser history or use a private tab.
Is legal aid available for women?
Yes. Under s.12(c) of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, every woman is entitled to legal services from the government legal services authorities, whatever her income. Call 15100 or contact your District Legal Services Authority.
