FAQs
- What is Grahak Adhikar?
- A bilingual consumer-rights tool for India. Pick one of 8 problems (defective product, online order or refund stuck, poor service, overcharging above MRP or service charge, builder delay, insurance claim rejected, failed UPI / bank charges, flight refund) to see the first 3 steps, rights in short, proof to keep, what not to do, where to complain, a ready complaint letter and a WhatsApp Status card. A finder shows which Consumer Commission to approach and the 2-year last date. Educational facilitation only — not legal advice.
- Which Consumer Commission should I go to?
- It depends on the value of the goods or services you paid for: District Commission up to ₹50 lakh, State Commission above ₹50 lakh up to ₹2 crore, National Commission above ₹2 crore (Consumer Protection Jurisdiction Rules, 2021). You can file where you live or personally work, online on e-Jagriti.
- Is there a fee and a time limit for a consumer complaint?
- No filing fee is payable where the amount paid is up to ₹5 lakh; above that a slab fee applies. A complaint should generally be filed within 2 years from when the cause of action arose (s.69, Consumer Protection Act, 2019); a late complaint needs a delay-condonation request showing sufficient cause.
- Should I call 1915 before going to the Commission?
- It's usually a good first step. The National Consumer Helpline (1915 or consumerhelpline.gov.in) forwards your complaint to the company and many complaints get resolved without a case. It is not compulsory before filing on e-Jagriti.
- Does Adhiwakta file my consumer complaint?
- No. Adhiwakta is a citizen legal-help facilitation platform, not a law firm. It does not file complaints, appear before any commission or deal with companies for you, and does not guarantee any outcome. You can ask a general question on WhatsApp, and government legal aid (15100) is available to eligible people.
