How people usually send a legal notice
- Print, sign and date the notice. Keep at least two copies.
- Send by Speed Post or Registered Post with acknowledgement to the recipient's correct address; keep the postal receipt and save the tracking page.
- Optionally also send a scanned copy by email/WhatsApp — keep screenshots.
- Note the delivery date. Your next steps (reply period, complaint deadlines) usually run from it.
- If you get a reply, do not ignore it — share it with an advocate.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I send a legal notice myself without an advocate in India?
- There is generally no rule that only an advocate can send a legal notice; many people send one in their own name. But wording, timing and the correct recipient matter, especially for cheque bounce and eviction. Have an advocate review the draft before sending.
- How should a legal notice be sent?
- People commonly send it by Speed Post or Registered Post with acknowledgement to the recipient's correct address and keep the postal receipt and tracking record. An email or WhatsApp copy can be added as a supporting record.
- How many days should a legal notice give to reply?
- Often 15 days. For a cheque bounce notice under Section 138 of the NI Act, the drawer gets 15 days from receipt of the notice to pay. Other periods can depend on the law that applies (for example, state rent laws) and your agreement.
- Is this generated notice legally valid?
- It is a general template for information only. Whether a notice is sufficient depends on your facts and the law that applies. Adhiwakta is not a law firm; please get the draft reviewed by an advocate.
- Is my data stored?
- No. The generator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded or stored by Adhiwakta.
